Although there’s no rule that these candidates have to be the oldest child from each house, that’s been the case for as long as anyone can remember.Īs readers follow a point of view from each house, though, we realize that we’re witnessing something unprecedented: the candidates from each family are not the first-borns who’ve been preparing their entire lives. With the emperor dead, the five royal families of Etrusia prepare to send their first-borns and their dragon companions to compete for the open throne.

Especially with 5 characters, the story could have been a lot longer with more build up towards all the plot twists and climax.65 In House of Dragons, Five Second-Borns Find Themselves in an Unexpected Situation I like my epic fantasies to have a lot of development. This criticism is particularly based on my personal preference so thats why I’m going to rate it 4/5. The only little complain I have was that I wish the story could’ve slowed down and snowballed. Thus providing an advantage over the other competitors and their dragons (dw this is just one example, there are 4 other dragons that all have their own little something).

The opening 5 character were each dedicated to the five main characters. This is what created this effect of a fast paced story. Its around 440 pages, so I was a little concerned on how the author could pull this off with barely 500 pages, but SHE DID! We get to know all the characters in an “equal amount” she accomplished this with by writing short chapters. So when I noticed that this book had 5 main characters, I was super excited. What really drew my attention was the prospect of multiple POVs, I’m such a sucker for multiple POV books. After reading books that took their sweet timing in building up worlds and storyline, a fast paced book was much needed. What a ride (pun intended)! If I were to describe this novel in 2 words, it would be: Fast paced.
